Cough
Cough is considered one of the most common complaints for a visit at TruDoc Medical or any pulmonary practice. It is our body’s natural reaction to irritants of the throat and the airways. An irritant stimulates nerves that send a message to the brain. The brain then tells muscles in the chest and abdomen to push air out of the lungs to force out the irritant.
Few sporadic coughs throughout the day are normal reaction. Prolonged, forceful, and excessive coughing is not normal. This type of cough furthermore irritates the lungs and produce more coughing.
There are numerous causes of cough. These can be classified as acute (less than 3 weeks) vs. subacute (3-8 weeks) chronic (over 8 weeks).
