Interstitial Lung Disease

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a category of pulmonary diseases affecting the interstitium (the tissue that surrounds the lung’s air sacs, blood vessels and airways) leading to Fibrosis, which means “scarring” and “inflammation”. This scarring makes the lung tissue stiff, which can make breathing difficult. ILD may be limited to the lung, or it can be related to a condition that may affect other parts of the body, such as rheumatoid arthritis or sarcoidosis.

Symptoms of ILDs are many, but most commonly: cough, chest pain and shortness of breath.

There are more than 200 causes of ILDs. To identify the disease and make the diagnosis, imaging such High-Resolution Computerized Tomography (HRCT), blood work, and lung function testing are required. In certain cases, invasive procedure such as lung biopsy might be required.

The treatment is different based on the cause of interstitial lung disease. At TruDoc Medical we keep up to date with all available treatment options. We follow the disease, assure its control, and triage care based on the best interest of the patient. We collaborate with the local resources and institutions to rehabilitate patients from respiratory stand point and we do our outmost best to keep the patients functional and productive.
